ASH GRUNWALD After an exciting year of performances at Bluesfest, Port Fairy Folk Festival & Mitchell Creek Blues & Roots Festival, Ash Grunwald has announced his final shows of 2016 before heading into the studio. Having well and truly conquered his homeland with endless touring resulting in a reputation of not-to-be-missed rocking live shows, Ash Grunwald has shrunk the world with familiarity, making the entire globe his home.
NICKY BOMBA After years of working with bands from Africa to the Middle East and honing his reggae, ska and mento expertise, Nicky has drawn on his musical journeys and philosophies to produce his first ever solo work, Planet Juice. This collection captures songs that have been sitting in the bag for years to new tunes – freshly squeezed. The live performance still holds sacred for Nicky who is eternally committed to creating a sense of community and unity whenever he plays. It is not uncommon for Nicky to go off on some magical tangent in order to really connect with an audience.
LIV CARTLEDGE Born and bred in the historic gold-mining town of Beechworth in North-east Victoria, Liv Cartledge is a rare find. At just 18, her husky tones, soul-filled lyrics and warm melodies married with a voice one can only assume comes from her toes, Liv will draw you in and leave you wondering how you got there. With each song telling a different story of people she’s met, places she’s been, thoughts and dreams she’s had, Liv’s songwriting will tug at your heart strings and leave you begging for more.
THE DEANS OF SOUL A critically acclaimed original Soul band based in Melbourne, Australia. Winners of The Age Music Victoria Award for Best Indigenous Act 2014. Nominated for “Band of the Year” in the prestigious Deadly Awards in 2007. With velvet smooth vocals, sweet keys, soaring heartbreak guitar, deep Motown bass grooves, brassy sass and hip-shaking rhythms.
GEORGE & NORIKO Known as the Japanese Blues Cowboy and the Tsugaru shamisen player, George and Noriko have been kicking up a storm wherever they play. His lightning fast blues licks, and growling harmonica enhanced by the percussive sounds of the traditional, fretless three-string shamisen has morphed into a kind of bluegrass hard country blues.
LAMINE SONKO & THE AFRICAN INTELLIGENCE When Lamine Sonko stepped foot on Australian soil from Senegal, West Africa 10 years ago, he quickly built a following. A captivating performer, he sings, dances, plays guitar and a variety of African drums. He also writes songs and plays a lead role in a number of ensembles, including his own group The African Intelligence. He’s seen as one of the most prolific and charismatic figures in the Australian-African music and dance community, and is also a leading educator of West African culture.
ROSE CITY BAND Our local concert band cover a wide range of repertoirecovering different genres of music from TV and Movie Themes, to Marches, Jazz, Swing and a dash of Funk. No instrument is left out in the band consisting of saxophones: alto, tenor & baritone; brass: trumpets & trombones; woodwind: clarinets & flutes - as well as vocals, piano, percussion, drums, guitars & bass.
